Splitting the mamak bill properly

Splitting evenly is easy and usually unfair. One person had a teh tarik, another had nasi kandar with extra ayam. Kira Mamak lets everyone pay for what they had, and splits the shared plates.

The charges

Many restaurants add a service charge (often 10%) and service tax on food and drinks. Most mamak stalls charge neither. The tool lets you set both to match your receipt, and applies them to each person’s share.

Rounding to 5 sen

Cash bills in Malaysia are rounded to the nearest 5 sen, so each person’s amount is rounded the same way. If the rounded shares add up to a few sen more or less than the bill, the tool says so.

Always check your receipt. Rates and rules can change, and every shop does it a little differently.
